Janiya Fleming is the athlete of the week during the week of September 25th. Fleming is a Sophomore on the Varsity Cross Country team. Fleming has been running cross country since she was 10. On gameday, Fleming’s pregame ritual consists of listening to music and engaging in Morrison’s pep talks. Fleming loves to get hype before a game and her go-to songs are Yeat’s “Big Tonka”, Wacka Flocka and Roscoe Dash’s “No Hands” and 21 Savage and Drake’s “Hours in Silence”.
A favorite memory of Fleming’s since she started running in cross country was when her mom hugged her right after her first 5k, her inspiration to run was to originally improve her skills on the track, but eventually, she fell in love with the sport. Fleming loves to run cross country because of the scenery and adrenaline she gets while running.
While running Flemming might be the Cross Country captain, but in the classroom, she is even better. Fleming’s favorite class is Mrs.Kintz’s Honors English II because she loves to read and write. Flemmings’s plans after high school consists of attending MIZZOU for their journalism program.
Come support your fellow Wildcat, and Athlete of the week on Saturday, September 30th.
“A medal doesn’t matter because you can do well and not get a medal, who else can say they run the same miles as you.” Fleming said.
