There’s something different about getting ice cream in St. Louis, especially on a hot day when you’re craving a sweet treat. While there are hundreds of local ice cream spots throughout the St Louis area, there’s one that stands above all, but we’ll get to that later.
Doozles Frozen Custard is a popular, long-standing dessert spot in Florissant serving delicious, sweet treats. Often praised for the best ice cream in North County and for various menu items.
Although I personally haven’t had it, Ted Drew’s frozen custard is consistently voted best ice cream in St. Louis and even voted “World’s best Ice Cream—famous for their original concrete and long-standing tradition in st louis and retro atmosphere.
Fitz restaurant is a popular restaurant in the Delmar Loop, not exactly known for its ice cream but more for its food and iconic root beer floats. With vintage glass bottles filled with root beer and topped with scoops of vanilla ice cream, it creates a sweet-savory drink.
Andy’s Frozen Custard, originally founded in Missouri in 1986, serves through drive-through and in-window service. Andy’s serves a variety of flavors and toppings, along with a create-your-own dish. Many believe that Andy’s is one of the best ice creams, not just in St louis but in the world.
Other hidden gems, like Clementine’s ice cream, are known for their unique “naughty” and “nice” concept, with both alcoholic and non-alcoholic ice cream flavors. As well as Oberweis Ice Cream, which is widely known for its premium dairy products, such as ice cream treats and milk.
All of these are great, but the one that stands out the best is hands down Fritz Ice Cream, founded in 1983 in the great St. Louis, Missouri. This family-owned business is a staple in the St louis community, widely known for its thick, creamy frozen custard and dozens of flavors. Unlike every other ice cream place, Fritz makes their ice cream a little differently; their custard has less air, making it taste creamier and slower to melt, and uses pasteurized eggs to make it richer.
