70s: In the 70s, songs like “Dancing Queen” by ABBA, and “Staying alive” by the BeeGee’s influenced the decade through its blended rock and disco elements. It was further characterized by funk bands from Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd.

80s: In the 80s, songs like “Everybody wants to rule the world” by Tears for Fears, and the A-ha’s “Take on Me” characterized the Era through its Synthpop Elements.

90s: The 90s were a big decade for music, there was pop, hip-hop, rock, pop-rock, e.t.c. However, it is no debate to say that it was THE era for grungy rock. Songs like “Smells like Teen Spirit” by Nirvana, and “Wonderwall” by Oasis. These songs influenced that grungy band alternative rock vibe of the 90s.

00s: In the 2000s, that 90s grungy teenage boy rock music followed, with songs like “Mr Brightside” by the ______, and “Welcome to the Black Parade” by My Chemical Romance, however the decade was defined by the sultry, club fun Pop and R&B songs like “Crazy in Love” by Beyonce and “Toxic” by Britney Spears.

10s: , the decade that I would call the peak years of music, was defined by that EDM rave pop music, with songs like “Clarity” by ZEDD and “We Found Love” by Rihanna and Calvin Harris.

20s: The tiktok-ification of music. This current decade of music we are living in has been defined by that fast, clicky, instant gratification type of music. With songs like, “Blinding Lights” by the Weekend and “Levitating” by Dua Lipa.
