For Emma Sever, being a student-athlete is something that has defined who she is as a person all four years of her high school career. Sever is being highlighted because she is a starter for the varsity volleyball team and is just as dedicated to her studies as she is to her sport.
Sever’s initial interest in volleyball was sparked because of her parents’ early involvement in her life and the sport.
“I have been playing since I was in 6th grade and I really enjoyed it and my mom was the coach so it made it more fun but I really like Coach Vaughn and his coaching-style.” Sever says.
Being several practices into the season, Sever is still slightly unsure as to how their season will unfold, but she keeps a positive attitude towards it. While Sever looks at the schedule this year and her competition, she thinks it will be a challenge this year.
“I’m not quite sure how the season will go because we haven’t started the season yet but even if we do lose most games that’s not what it’s really about and I’m pretty confident in our playing ability so I think we will win majority of games, I definitely think it will be a challenge but, I think challenging yourself in sports makes you play way better so i’m very excited” Server says.
As a senior, Sever plays an important role on her team, and is definitely looking forward to her final year being a successful one.
‘I am the setter and one of the only setters on varsity, I play as one of the leaders and hopefully one of the captains this year…I definitely look forward to senior night the most, ‘Server says.
Sever is most definitely a leader on and off the court and is ready to start setting her team and peers up for success.
